Am I "crazy" for needing a therapist?

Our nervous systems thrive off of human connection. Sitting face-to-face, in close proximity with another person provides a safe space to be honest and talk about "real things with real people."  Our world is broken and no one escapes its suffering.  Allowing someone to help connect with you in your deepest pain and fear can be the change for which you've longed.

I talk to my family or my pastor.  Why do I need to talk to you?

Having a support system is imperative and propels the counseling process.  The difference in professional counseling and family/pastor/support system is we remain emotionally objective.  In other words, we as trained professionals provide insight and opportunity that an emotionally-involved family member or friend may not have.

I have a counselor:  God.

Yes, Scripture states that Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor and that the Holy Spirit comforts us in our times of weakness.  Scripture also demonstrates many examples of the importance of living together, being known, be seen, being understood.  Relationship is God's idea.  Professional counseling is a relationship.

Do you prescribe medication?

No.  We are professional counselors.  Only those with medical degrees such as nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, and medical doctors can prescribe medication.  We can provide a referral should medication be a supplement to your treatment goals.

How often do I need to come?

Most people begin with weekly or bi-monthly sessions.  If someone needs to be seen more frequently, a referral to a more intensive service will be made.

How long will I need to come?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling.

Can I stop at any time?

Yes.  You have the freedom to terminate services at any time.  Financial responsibilities for services rendered are still required.
